Hollywood Village is a community coalition formed by the partnership of the Church of Scientology, The Way to Happiness Foundation, and the Los Angeles Police Department. It brings together people of all faiths, ideologies, and backgrounds with the shared goal of making Hollywood a cleaner, safer, and more vibrant community.
In areas where Hollywood Village has initiated mural projects, cleanups, and promoted common-sense values, the crime rate has significantly decreased, making it much lower than other nearby neighborhoods. These areas also see a notable reduction in homeless encampments.
After a cleanup, volunteers are treated to delicious meals and treats sponsored by local businesses. For instance, they've enjoyed tacos from Leo’s Taco Truck, homemade Filipino noodle dishes, and treats from Kettle Glazed Donuts.
"The Way to Happiness" is a moral code written by author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard. It encompasses common-sense values that resonate with people of all backgrounds and faiths. The booklet also provides tools that individuals can use to positively change their lives.
Hollywood Village has been actively creating street art to transform and rejuvenate derelict streets in Hollywood. These projects, often led by local artists, aim to set new aesthetic and community standards for the area.
The response has been overwhelmingly positive. Many residents have spontaneously joined in the efforts, with some even stopping their cars to participate or express their gratitude. The projects have instilled hope and provided a tangible plan for neighbors to reclaim and uplift their community.
One of Hollywood Village's core missions is to assist individuals experiencing homelessness. While the cleanups might not entirely solve the homelessness issue, they aim to provide a cleaner and more dignified environment for those affected, helping them transition to a better life.
"Cash for Trash" is an initiative launched by Hollywood Village before the pandemic. It invites those living in nearby encampments to participate in the cleanup activities. In return, participants are compensated with hard cash based on the weight of the trash they collect, promoting cleanliness while providing some financial relief.
